Sac States football working hard to make a change

It has been no easy days for Sacramento States football team as they enter with still no win under the helmets after three games.
However, not all is lost, and spirits are still up as they jog into practice Thursday afternoon. Senior wide reciever Ryan Coogler says, “All we need is that first win to get us started then it will be no problem for us.” As he runs over to start his drills for the beginning of the practice.
The Sac State Hornets finished with a record of 4-7 last year in the place of fifth. “We had a lot of young guys on the team, now they are more experienced and more disciplined for college football.” Coogler says.
During the off season, the team reorganizing all of the coaches on staff except for two. Former defenisive back and Senior Stephon Paige says, “Hopefully that will help their team out because how we were lookin in the past was not doing us any good.”
During the footbal teams practices, all the positions break into there different groups sections to go over individual drills to warm up. When the are done with that, the teams work on their kickoff and receiving part of the games.
They stretch, and then simulate game time plays against their upcoming opponent. They put the second string player to simulate their next opponent so they can work on plays the other team runs.
Right after they finish that, they work on individual practice again, and then work on their plays.
After all of that, they get on the line and runsprints as a team to get better in shape. So people are probably wondering ‘Why does Sacramento State always has a losing record’ Well some players blame it on the atmosphere that they play in on road trips. Junior defensive cornerback Bryan Parker says: “When we go into Nothern Arizona or something like that, it is hard to simulate their elavation. We start to breakdown and get tired.”
With new coach Marshall Sperbeck, they are looking to improve on last years record and hopefully make it to the playoffs. Parker says that his new coach (Sperbeck) is excited and believes in the team, I believe that is why we haven’t lost any hopes of doing good this year.
Since the Hornets have only played one regular season games, they are still in good shapes to make the playoffs and even clinch a top spot for a good seed. As long as they keep their spirits up and maintain their cool Coogler says, they will be ok.

Airport Security v. Love

My girlfriend and I live apart from each other, and when I say apart I mean she stays in Arizona. However, when we get together, it is like magic colliding with happiness.
I usually have obstacles in my path, and one of my biggest is airport security. None was more bigger then my first time going to visit her one year ago.
It was a hot summer’s day in Sacramento, but I was so excited to see my lady because it was the first time I was going to Arizona ever. I haven’t seen her in a really long time so I got my haircut and got a couple of new items to enhance my wardrobe. I am feeling like a million bucks when I enter the airport.
I go ahead and check my bags and enter the ridiculous search and destroy line in the airport because of what had happened on September 11th.
I get to the front and they pull me out of line. I am thinking, I must be forming a new line because I do not understand why I have to wait while everybody is passing me up.
I do not fret, I was a little early so I could relax or for any mishaps that could delay in my travel. So I am waiting and waiting and I see more and more people pass me. Everybody looking at me like I have a weapon or I was smuggling illegal merchandise.
I start to get impatient but keep my cool because all I was worrying about was seeing my lady. They finally come over and hand me my bag and take out my Old Spice deodorant and says, “Are you carrying anything in this container?”
I start to get angry, but sarcastically smile and say something along the lines of “Well there are chemicals in there that cause freshness with a robust smell.”
The security guard tells me to check my item or throw it away. I paid good money for that stick of deodorant, but the line was getting real long and it was getting closer and closer to my flight time, so I told him he can have it.
I finally reach my gate and tried to put all of that foolishness behind me. I decided to get a Cinnabon me feels better and a water to keep my hydrated for the flight.
While I am eating these security guards run up to me and start asking me questions about when she comes you are in big trouble, just admit to it now.
I am stuffing my mouth with this pastry starting to believe them think, ‘Man I must have had something in that deodorant container.’
Come to find out that some guy had tried to steal this ladies purse and I fit the profile because he was black and had short hair.
Through all this excitement I finally get to board the plane. This whole time the plane is getting ready to take off I am nervous thinking that the security was going to run on and stop me because of my chap stick, or I get kicked off because of my $5 bottle of hand lotion I snuck in my backpack.
As soon as I reached my destination and saw my girlfriends face, the memories of my horrible time with the airport security erased like it was just part of a dream I had on the flight. Seeing her was all worth the trouble and I would do it again just to see her smile.
Well, I had to if we were going to stay together.

Column Writing

What I would like to get out of this class is basically to learn how to write a well balanced column. It is easy to say yeah I write, but not easy to say, I write well especially if you wanna write for a magazine or a newspaper. I wanna be that writer that can capture the interest of readers to keep them focus throughout the whole article. Whether it be my great quotes or my writing swagger, but I want to be able to be able to write the best column this side of Mississippi. With the help of Prof. Fitzgerald
